WHAT DOES A MICROALBUMIN URINALYSIS TEST FOR? Albumin is a protein that is filtered by your kidneys and therefore, not usually found in the urine. The Diabetic Urinalysis (Microalbumin) tests for the presence of this protein in your urine. The Diabetic Urinalysis can help determine if your diabetes treatment is working adequately and alert your doctor to any complications from the disease (such as kidney disease). WHY DO I NEED A MICROALBUMIN LAB TEST? If present in your urine, albumin may be the result of damaged kidneys. Early detection may change treatment in an effort to preserve as much kidney function as possible.
